Compact WiFi 7 Networking with Room to Grow
The Ubiquiti UX7 UniFi Express 7 combines a cloud gateway, the UniFi Network application and tri-band WiFi 7 in a compact desktop device. A 10GbE WAN port and 2.5GbE LAN port support fast wired connections, while additional UX7 units can extend wireless coverage through mesh. It suits homes, small offices and shops that want centralised network management without a rack-mounted gateway.
Highlights
Fast Wired and Wireless Connections
- Tri-band WiFi 7 across 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz with Multi-Link Operation for compatible clients.
- One 10GbE WAN port and one 2.5GbE LAN port.
- Maximum radio rates of 5.7 Gbps on 6 GHz, 4.3 Gbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz.
Centralised Control and Protection
- Runs UniFi Network and supports management of 30+ UniFi devices.
- Supports 300+ simultaneous users and up to 2.3 Gbps IDS/IPS throughput.
- Includes application-aware firewalling, network segmentation and remote-access VPN options.
Flexible Desktop Deployment
- Compact 117 × 117 × 42.5 mm enclosure with a front status display.
- Manufacturer-rated coverage of up to 160 m² per unit, subject to placement and surroundings.
- USB-C power adapter included; additional UX7 units can extend the network.
Key Features
Tri-Band WiFi 7 for Modern Devices
Separate 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz radios provide connection options for everyday devices and compatible WiFi 7 clients. Multi-Link Operation allows supported devices to use multiple wireless links, while 2 × 2 MU-MIMO operates on each band. WiFi 7 clients can use channel widths up to 320 MHz where supported.
Advertised wireless rates describe maximum radio link speeds, rather than the speed of an individual Internet connection. Real performance depends on the client, channel availability, interference and network layout.
Multi-Gigabit Ports with Clear Performance Limits
Connect the 10GbE WAN port to a suitable modem or upstream Internet service, then use the 2.5GbE LAN port for a wired device or a compatible network switch. Both ports support lower Ethernet link speeds. The UX7 has one physical WAN port, and Ubiquiti rates IDS/IPS throughput at 2.3 Gbps, so the WAN port speed should not be treated as its inspected routing speed.
Built-In UniFi Network Management
The integrated UniFi Network application brings device adoption, wireless settings, client visibility and traffic management into one interface. It supports 30+ managed UniFi devices and 300+ simultaneous users, making it suitable for a growing home or small business network. The UX7 hosts UniFi Network; it does not host the UniFi Protect or Access applications.
Mesh Expansion as Coverage Needs Change
Start with a UX7 as the gateway and expand coverage with additional UX7 nodes. Placement guidance helps position nodes, and mesh provides an expansion option where running new Ethernet cable is impractical. Walls, interference and the link between nodes affect coverage and throughput, so a multi-unit installation should be planned around the site rather than a simple multiplication of the single-unit coverage figure.
Firewall, Segmentation and VPN Tools
Stateful and application-aware firewall rules, intrusion detection and prevention, content filtering and VLAN segmentation help control traffic between users and devices. Remote-access options include Teleport, WireGuard and OpenVPN, with site-to-site VPN support for connecting locations.
CyberSecure is an optional paid subscription. Ubiquiti's claim of 20,000+ IDS/IPS signatures applies with CyberSecure and should not be read as an included subscription.
Small Footprint and Simple Power
The white polycarbonate enclosure fits on a desk or shelf and includes a front display for status information. The supplied USB-C adapter powers the gateway from an AC socket, with maximum device power consumption of 22 W. The 2.5GbE LAN port can connect to a separate switch when more wired ports are required.
Summary
The UniFi Express 7 combines WiFi 7, multi-gigabit Ethernet and UniFi Network management in one compact gateway. It is a practical starting point for homes and small businesses that need centralised control today and the option to expand with additional mesh nodes later.
