Key Features
Share the connection available at your location
Use wired Ethernet where a network socket is available, connect to a WiFi uplink, or use a compatible phone with USB tethering enabled. This provides several ways to establish an internet connection without reconfiguring every personal device for each location. USB tethering relies on the phone, cable, mobile service and current supported software; the router does not contain a cellular modem or SIM slot.
Handle hotel sign-in from the mobile app
The UniFi mobile app supports captive-portal sign-in, allowing you to complete the venue’s required authentication before sharing the connection. Access remains subject to the venue’s network policy and internet service. The router cannot remove a login requirement or guarantee that every restricted public network will permit VPN traffic.
Keep a consistent network for your devices
Dual-radio 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi lets compatible phones, tablets and laptops use your travel network. Two Gigabit Ethernet ports provide wired WAN and LAN connections. WiFi 5 link rates reach 866.7Mbps under supported radio conditions; this is a wireless link figure, not a promise of internet or VPN throughput.
Use stand-alone mode or connect to your UniFi site
UTR works in stand-alone device mode without requiring a UniFi account. For an existing UniFi environment, integrated Teleport and site binding help extend a familiar network to a remote location. These features require an appropriately configured compatible destination site and usable internet connectivity; a separate home or office gateway is not included.
Choose a supported VPN client
WireGuard and OpenVPN client support allow traffic to use a configured VPN service. This is useful for remote access or a chosen outbound connection, but it still depends on the VPN endpoint, upstream network and configuration. It does not mean a third-party VPN subscription is included or that every connection is encrypted before you enable the relevant VPN settings.
Power a compact device without a bulky enclosure
UTR weighs 89g and has a 1.14-inch status display for connection information. Supply USB-C 5V / 2A power from a suitable adapter, which is not included. Bluetooth supports management and initial setup. Its small size suits a travel desk, while the operating temperature limit remains −10–40°C.
Summary
UTR suits travellers and remote workers who want a compact private WiFi and wired network with flexible uplinks and VPN client options. Bring a suitable USB-C power supply and use the connection and VPN settings appropriate to the place you are working.
