Bring fingerprint entry to suitable existing reader wiring
The Ubiquiti Retrofit Fingerprint Reader adds fingerprint, keypad and contactless entry to a UniFi Access system built around the UniFi Retrofit Hub 2 (UA-Retrofit-Hub-2). Its RS-485 OSDP connection can reuse suitable reader cabling, helping an installer upgrade the user interface while retaining an appropriate wired route to the door.
Highlights
Retrofit wiring path
- RS-485 communication using OSDP v2.
- 12V DC reader power with a maximum consumption of 3.5W.
Flexible credentials
- Capacitive sensor with capacity for 300 fingerprints.
- Physical PIN keypad, NFC cards and keyfobs, Mobile Unlock and Touch Pass.
Entrance-ready construction
- IP55 protection and indoor or outdoor installation.
- Black and White finishes with wall and gang-box mounts included.
Part of UniFi Access
- Requires the exact UniFi Retrofit Hub 2 (UA-Retrofit-Hub-2).
- Manage the reader through the hub and UniFi Access application.
Key Features
Choose the correct hub and cabling
This reader requires UA-Retrofit-Hub-2 and communicates through that hub. The installation uses GND, 12V, A and B connections for power and RS-485 data. Have the installer check the existing cable and termination; this is not an Ethernet PoE reader or a general-purpose replacement for every legacy reader.
Fingerprint entry for enrolled users
The capacitive sensor provides a card-free option for regular staff. Its stated capacity is measured as 300 fingerprints. Confirm enrolment arrangements and choose suitable alternative entry methods for users who will use PIN, card or mobile credentials.
PIN entry on the physical keypad
A built-in keypad lets users enter an assigned PIN. UniFi Access manages PIN credentials and fixed or variable PIN-length settings. The keypad gives a clear alternative to fingerprint entry without requiring the touchscreen hardware found on Reader Pro products.
Check existing cards before an upgrade
The reader supports 13.56MHz NFC cards and keyfobs, including UniFi Access Cards and Pocket Keyfobs. Suitable third-party cards need registration and the relevant Access setting. An old credential working on a Wiegand system does not establish that its frequency and format will work on this NFC reader.
Separate app access from Touch Pass
Mobile Unlock uses Bluetooth Low Energy and UniFi Endpoint through Mobile Button or Mobile Tap. Touch Pass uses a compatible Apple or Google Wallet credential instead. Supported iPhones and Apple Watches can use the Apple option; Google Wallet requires a compatible Android phone and currently excludes Wear OS.
Allow for wallet subscriptions
The eligible console receives a one-time grant of ten one-year trial Touch Passes when its first compatible reader is adopted. The entitlement is per console, not an extra ten passes with every reader. Additional passes and renewals are paid per user, with compatible devices and regional support required.
Plan mounting and the complete door system
Wall and gang-box mounting plates, trim and fixings are included; UACC-Reader-JB is optional. IP55 construction supports indoor and outdoor placement from −30 to 50°C. The hub, its suitable power supply, electric lock, console and installation cabling are separate items; this reader does not provide the lock relay.
Prepare software and user permissions
This model currently requires UniFi OS 6.0 RC. Check the console, Access application and reader firmware before installation, including suitability of release-candidate software. Select supported credentials and user access permissions in the door system. This is a credential reader, not a camera intercom or a standalone controller.
Summary
Choose the Retrofit Fingerprint Reader when an upgrade will use UA-Retrofit-Hub-2 and verified existing RS-485 cabling. It offers fingerprint, PIN and contactless entry while keeping door control and management within the required UniFi system.
Ubiquiti UA-Retrofit-Reader-Fingerprint UniFi OSDP Reader
The Retrofit Fingerprint Reader connects to the UniFi Retrofit Hub 2 (UA-Retrofit-Hub-2) through RS-485 OSDP cabling and 12V DC power. It offers fingerprint, physical keypad, NFC and mobile credentials in an IP55 enclosure. Black and White finishes share the specifications below. The required hub, its power supply, electric lock and Access console are separate items. Check the existing cabling and current UniFi OS 6.0 RC requirement before installation. Touch Pass wallet credentials require compatible devices and an assigned trial or paid pass.
