Key Features
A Port Mix for Larger Access Networks
Thirty-two 2.5GbE ports support a larger group of powered endpoints, while sixteen 10GbE ports serve higher-bandwidth devices. Allocate ports around the access points, workstations and other equipment being installed. This port mix differs from the non-stacking ECS-48-PoE, so the two models should be assessed individually.
Size the PoE Budget for the Power Mode
Each access port supports up to 90 W at the switch, subject to the total available budget. With the supplied pair of 1,200 W modules, 200–240 V AC provides 2,150 W in shared mode or 950 W in redundant mode. Lower input voltage reduces these figures. Reserve sufficient PoE capacity for the intended failover mode; the per-port maximum cannot be supplied to all ports simultaneously at full load.
25G Uplinks and Stacking Interfaces
Four SFP28 uplinks support 25G, 10G and 1G connections to compatible aggregation equipment. The two rear QSFP28 interfaces are dedicated 100G stacking ports, rather than general-purpose uplinks. Stacking and cross-stack LAG are listed in the technical specifications, but Ubiquiti currently marks stacking as coming soon on its enterprise overview. Confirm availability in the intended firmware and UniFi Network release before relying on these functions.
Layer 3 Services and Access Controls
Inter-VLAN routing, static routing, a local DHCP server and DHCP relay support campus network segmentation. 802.1X, DHCP snooping and ACLs help control network access. QoS, multicast controls and Pro AV profiles support environments carrying voice, video and business traffic.
Serviceable Hardware and Clear Port Identification
Hot-swappable power and fan modules simplify servicing within the rack. Etherlighting helps identify port location, link speed and native network assignments. A local touchscreen, dedicated management Ethernet interface and serial console provide additional access for setup and troubleshooting.
UniFi and Rack Requirements
UniFi Network version 10.6.101 or later is required. Suitable uplinks can connect to the Enterprise Campus Aggregation switch. Verify the required optics or DACs and purchase them separately. The full-depth 1U chassis requires a four-post rack, or suitable centre support or a cantilever shelf for a two-post installation.
Summary
The ECS-48S-PoE combines powered multi-gigabit access, 25G uplinks and serviceable rackmount hardware for campus networks. Choose the PSU operating mode around the endpoint load and redundancy requirement, and confirm stacking software availability before designing a topology that depends on it.
