Seagate IronWolf NAS Hard Drives for Shared Storage
Seagate IronWolf NAS hard drives are designed for home, small-office and small-business network storage systems with one to eight drive bays. They provide internal SATA storage for shared folders, backups, media libraries and other everyday NAS workloads, with conventional magnetic recording across the listed models.
Choose the capacity that suits your storage plan and the exact model supported by your NAS. Usable space depends on formatting, RAID configuration, system data and the number of drives installed. Replacing a drive in an existing array may also require a matching or larger capacity.
Highlights
- Built for NAS: designed for compatible one- to eight-bay systems operating around the clock.
- CMR recording: conventional magnetic recording across the listed IronWolf models.
- SATA interface: 3.5-inch internal drives with SATA 6Gb/s connectivity.
- NAS workload rating: up to 180TB per year under Seagate's stated workload definition.
- Capacity choice: select the required storage size, with exact model details in Specs.
- Support coverage: three-year limited warranty and eligible Rescue Data Recovery Services subject to the applicable terms and location.
Key Features
Storage for Always-On NAS Use
A NAS can serve several users and applications at the same time, from office documents to scheduled backups and media access. IronWolf firmware is designed for these environments, including error recovery control for compatible RAID systems and operation in multi-bay enclosures.
The 180TB/year workload rating covers transferred data rather than the amount of storage capacity. Select the drive family and NAS configuration to match your expected activity. A heavier business workload or a larger enclosure may call for a different drive class.
Choose by Exact Model
Spindle speed, transfer rate, power consumption and weight differ between capacities and model generations. The listed 1TB to 6TB models run at 5400rpm, while the listed 8TB to 18TB models run at 7200rpm. These are exact-model specifications, rather than a promise that every drive with the same capacity has identical performance.
Maximum sustained transfer rates in Specs are drive-level figures. Actual file-transfer speed also depends on RAID layout, NAS processing, network speed, file sizes and other users. A SATA 6Gb/s interface does not mean that the mechanical drive transfers files at 6Gb/s.
Check Compatibility Before Expanding
Check your NAS manufacturer's compatibility list for the exact IronWolf part number and any firmware requirements. The shared 3.5-inch SATA form factor alone does not confirm compatibility with every NAS, expansion enclosure or storage pool.
For an existing RAID array, follow the NAS manufacturer's replacement and rebuild procedure. Allow sufficient rebuild time and maintain a separate backup before making storage changes. RAID can improve availability, but it does not replace a backup of important files.
Health Monitoring and Recovery Support
IronWolf Health Management is available with supported NAS platforms and compatible drives. It provides additional drive-health information through the NAS software; availability and functions depend on the NAS manufacturer, operating system and drive model.
Eligible IronWolf drives include three years of Rescue Data Recovery Services in supported locations. Service eligibility and recovery conditions follow Seagate's terms, and successful recovery cannot be guaranteed. The three-year limited warranty is separate from a backup strategy.
Summary
Seagate IronWolf provides a practical CMR storage option for compatible home and business NAS systems. Choose the required capacity, check the exact part number against your NAS requirements and use the model-specific Specs to plan performance, power and enclosure cooling.
