The X4 Air captures everything surrounding the camera, allowing users to concentrate on the activity instead of continually adjusting the shooting direction. The final viewpoint, movement and aspect ratio can be selected afterwards using the Insta360 app or desktop software.

This flexible workflow suits unpredictable activities where important moments may occur in front of, behind or beside the camera.

8K 360° Video and 29MP Photography

Dual lenses record immersive 360° video at up to 8K30fps, retaining detail for reframing, cropping and playback on compatible displays. The camera also captures approximately 29MP 360° photographs at 7680 × 3840 resolution in INSP or DNG format.

For smoother movement, 360° video supports up to 6K50fps. Available resolutions and frame rates depend on the selected recording mode.

Active HDR and AdaptiveTone

Active HDR captures additional highlight and shadow detail during stabilised daytime recording, helping preserve the surrounding environment when lighting conditions are uneven.

AdaptiveTone analyses footage from both lenses and balances brightness, colour and contrast for a more consistent appearance across the complete 360° image.

AI-Assisted Reframing

After recording, creators can use AI-powered tools in the Insta360 app to identify subjects and select useful viewpoints. Manual keyframes provide greater control over camera direction, zoom and movement when a specific composition is required.

Footage can be exported in conventional horizontal, vertical or square formats for different websites and social-media platforms.

Invisible Selfie Stick Effect

When used with a compatible Insta360 selfie stick, the stick is automatically removed from stitched 360° footage. This creates third-person, overhead and simulated drone-style views without requiring a separate camera operator.

The selfie stick is sold separately unless included in the selected bundle.

InstaFrame and 4K Single-Lens Modes

InstaFrame Mode records a ready-to-share flat video while retaining the surrounding 360° footage for later reframing. This supports faster publishing while preserving additional viewpoints from the original recording.

Single-Lens Mode converts the X4 Air into a conventional wide-angle action camera and supports up to 4K60fps video with an ultra-wide 170° field of view.

FlowState Stabilisation and Horizon Lock

FlowState Stabilisation reduces camera shake during walking, running and riding. The accompanying 360° Horizon Lock keeps footage level even when the camera tilts or rotates completely.

These technologies produce smoother results without requiring a separate mechanical gimbal.

Replaceable Lenses

The X4 Air has user-replaceable lenses, allowing a damaged lens to be changed using the compatible replacement kit instead of replacing the entire camera. This provides a more practical repair path for a camera used during sports, travel and outdoor activities.

Waterproof and Ready for Outdoor Use

The camera is waterproof to 15 metres without an additional housing. A compatible Invisible Dive Case supports properly stitched underwater 360° footage at greater depths.

Ensure the battery and USB covers are securely closed before exposing the camera to water. Underwater stitching quality may be affected without the appropriate dive case.

Removable Battery and Expandable Storage

The removable 2010mAh battery provides up to approximately 88 minutes of continuous 8K30fps recording under Insta360’s controlled test conditions. It can recharge fully in approximately 57 minutes using a compatible 9V/2A power source.

Recording requires a compatible UHS-I V30 microSD card formatted in exFAT. Cards with capacities up to 1TB are supported.

Actual operating time varies according to temperature, resolution, wireless connectivity, screen usage and other recording conditions.
