The Insta360 X5 records the complete scene around the camera, giving creators greater freedom when filming unpredictable action. Instead of aiming at one fixed viewpoint, users can capture first and select forward-facing, rear-facing, portrait, landscape or moving perspectives during editing.

This approach is particularly useful for travel, cycling, motorcycling, skiing, water sports, events and other situations where repeating the shot may not be possible.

8K 360° Video and 72MP Photography

X5 records 360° video at up to 8K30fps, preserving additional detail for immersive playback, reframing and cropping. It also captures 72MP 360° photographs at approximately 11904 × 5952 resolution.

For faster movement, 5.7K recording supports up to 60fps, while 4K 360° video can reach 120fps. Available frame rates depend on the selected shooting mode and resolution.

Dual Sensors with Triple AI Processing

Two 1/1.28-inch sensors work with two dedicated imaging processors and a 5nm AI chip to improve image clarity, colour and dynamic range. The larger sensors gather more light than the previous generation, supporting clearer footage across daylight, indoor and low-light environments.

PureVideo uses AI-assisted noise reduction and dynamic-range optimisation for night scenes and difficult lighting. Active HDR helps retain highlight and shadow detail when recording movement in high-contrast conditions.

Record First and Reframe Later

The X5 captures every direction simultaneously, allowing the camera angle and composition to be selected after filming. AI Frame can identify important subjects and suggest suitable viewpoints, while manual keyframing provides greater control over camera movement and perspective.

The Invisible Selfie Stick effect automatically removes a compatible selfie stick from the stitched footage, creating floating-camera, third-person and drone-like views.

Compatible selfie sticks are sold separately unless included in the selected bundle.

InstaFrame 2.0 and Single-Lens Mode

InstaFrame 2.0 records an instantly shareable flat video while retaining the surrounding 360° footage for later editing. This supports faster social-media publishing without giving up the flexibility of reframing the original scene.

Single-Lens Mode turns the X5 into a conventional wide-angle action camera, recording up to 4K60fps. FreeFrame Video provides flexible aspect-ratio adjustment, while MaxView offers an expansive 170° field of view at up to 4K30fps.

FlowState Stabilisation and 360° Horizon Lock

FlowState Stabilisation reduces camera shake during walking, riding and high-movement activities. Because the camera records in every direction, 360° Horizon Lock can keep footage level even when the camera tilts or rotates during recording.

These technologies help produce smoother results without requiring a separate mechanical gimbal.

Replaceable Lenses and Waterproof Construction

The user-replaceable lens design allows a damaged outer lens to be replaced using a compatible Insta360 X5 Replacement Lens Kit. This reduces downtime and provides a more practical repair path for an action camera exposed to demanding environments.

X5 is waterproof to 15 metres without an additional housing. For properly stitched 360° footage underwater, Insta360 recommends using a compatible Invisible Dive Case, which is sold separately.

Always ensure the battery cover and USB cover are correctly closed before exposing the camera to water.

Extended Battery Life and Fast Charging

The removable 2400mAh battery supports up to 208 minutes of 5.7K24fps recording in Endurance Mode under Insta360’s controlled test conditions. It can also provide up to 100 minutes of 8K30fps recording in Endurance Mode.

With the camera powered off and connected to a compatible 30W PD3.0 PPS USB-C charger, the battery can recharge to 80% in approximately 20 minutes.

Actual recording and charging times depend on temperature, resolution, frame rate, wireless functions, screen usage, firmware and operating conditions.

Clearer Audio and Hands-Free Control

A built-in multi-layer Wind Guard and upgraded audio processing help reduce wind and environmental noise. Voice enhancement prioritises speech for vlogging and spoken content.
