Managed Gigabit Networking for Industrial Cabinets
The Ubiquiti UniFi USW-Industrial-DIN-8 brings managed Ethernet to compact control cabinets and industrial installations. Eight Gigabit copper ports connect local equipment, while two 1G SFP ports provide fibre uplink options. Its fanless aluminium enclosure, flexible DIN attachment and dual DC inputs suit installations that need practical mounting and power choices. This is the non-PoE model; connected equipment requires its own power.
Highlights
Compact Industrial Installation
- DIN rail or wall mounting with left, right or rear DIN attachment positions.
- Fanless operation across a −30 to 70°C operating range.
Managed Copper and Fibre
- Eight 1GbE RJ45 ports and two 1G SFP ports.
- UniFi management with VLANs, link aggregation and access controls.
Flexible DC Power
- Two DC inputs support a redundant power arrangement.
- External 12–60V DC supply rated at least 20W required; power supply not included.
Key Features
Separate Local Connections from Uplinks
Use the copper ports for controllers, terminals and other Ethernet equipment, leaving the two SFP ports for suitable fibre links. Both SFP ports are rated for 1G operation. Choose transceivers and fibre to match the remote switch, cable type and distance; do not assume that a 10G module will provide a faster uplink.
Keep Device Groups Organised
Support for up to 1,000 VLANs lets you separate device groups within a managed network. IP and MAC access control lists, network isolation and port isolation provide additional tools for controlling communication between equipment. Apply these controls according to the network design and the devices that must communicate.
Build Appropriate Link Redundancy
LACP can aggregate suitable switch links, while STP and RSTP support loop-aware network layouts. These features help when connecting cabinets or building alternative paths, provided the upstream equipment and configuration support the intended arrangement. Link aggregation does not change an individual port into a higher-speed interface.
Control Multicast and Unwanted Traffic
IGMP snooping, querier, fast-leave and router-port functions support managed multicast distribution. Storm control and multicast or broadcast rate limits help contain excessive traffic. Port mirroring assists troubleshooting, while jumbo-frame support is available where the complete network path is configured for it.
Manage Access at the Port
802.1X control, MAC port restrictions and MAC address blocking support device access policies. DHCP snooping and guarding add controls around DHCP traffic. These functions give the installer useful options for a managed environment; they require configuration that matches the equipment and network policy.
Fit the Cabinet Layout
The supplied DIN rail attachment and wall mounting plate support cabinet installation. Left, right or rear DIN attachment options allow the installer to plan cable access and cabinet space. The aluminium enclosure dissipates heat without a fan, and operation requires non-condensing conditions within the stated temperature range.
Plan External Power and Monitoring
Maximum switch consumption is 12W. Use a separate 12–60V DC power supply rated 20W or higher and wire it to the terminal-block input. Two inputs support power redundancy, and the integrated alarm relay enables external PSU monitoring. The switch does not power Ethernet devices and does not include a DC supply.
Prepare Management and Delivery
Configuration and monitoring are handled through UniFi, with Ethernet and a serial console available for management. Plan the management platform, cabinet wiring and uplink accessories before installation. Singapore availability and delivery timing are unconfirmed; confirm the delivery arrangement before scheduling an installation.
Summary
Choose DIN 8 for managed Gigabit connections in an industrial cabinet when devices already have their own power. It combines fibre uplink flexibility, practical mounting, network controls and redundant DC input options. Allow for the separate power supply and confirm Singapore delivery timing.
Ubiquiti UniFi USW-Industrial-DIN-8 Gigabit DIN Rail Switch
This industrial managed switch combines eight Gigabit copper interfaces and two 1G SFP uplinks with DIN rail or wall mounting. Dual DC inputs and an alarm relay support installation power planning and external monitoring. It does not provide PoE, so connected equipment needs its own power. A separate 12–60V DC supply rated 20W or higher is required and is not included. The following values cover switching, management, power and operating conditions. Singapore availability and delivery timing are unconfirmed.
