WD My Passport Native USB-C combines generous hard-drive capacity with a compact enclosure and a supplied USB-C to USB-C cable. Carry completed projects between compatible systems, keep a media collection beside your laptop or make a separate backup of the content you want to protect.

The drive comes formatted in exFAT for use with supported Windows and Mac computers. One cable carries data and power, while password protection and hardware encryption help keep private files secure. Included Acronis True Image for Western Digital adds supported computer-backup and ransomware-protection features after download and setup.

Highlights

Room for Your Growing Collection

Make room for photos, videos, documents and finished projects beyond your computer's internal storage.

A compact USB-powered design keeps your everyday storage easy to carry.

A Direct USB-C Connection

Native USB-C connector with a SuperSpeed USB-C to USB-C cable included.

exFAT format supports everyday file sharing between compatible Windows and Mac computers.

Backup Tools and File Privacy

Acronis True Image for Western Digital supports scheduled computer backups on supported systems.

Password protection with built-in hardware encryption through supported security software.

Key Features

Make Space for the Collection You Keep Building

A dedicated external hard drive gives your files room beyond your computer's internal storage. Plan storage around the photos, recordings and projects you already have, with extra room for the collection you expect to add. If the drive will also hold computer backups, allow room for those copies. Formatted usable capacity is lower than the marketed figure.

Connect Directly to a USB-C Computer

The drive has a native USB-C connector and includes a USB-C to USB-C cable, so a compatible USB-C computer connects without a separate adapter. The same cable supplies power from the host, keeping the setup easy to carry without a mains adapter. A computer with only USB-A ports needs a compatible additional data cable or adapter.

Move Files Across Windows and Mac

My Passport Native USB-C arrives formatted in exFAT for supported Windows 10 or later and macOS 11 or later computers. This supports everyday file storage across both platforms without first reformatting the drive. Compatibility with Android and iOS devices depends on the particular device, its storage support and available USB power; a USB-C socket alone does not establish compatibility.

Use a Familiar SuperSpeed USB Interface

USB 3.2 Gen 1 / USB 3.0 provides a connection rated up to 5Gb/s, with USB 2.0 compatibility for older host connections. This is the interface link rate, rather than the hard drive's sustained file-transfer speed. Actual performance depends on the computer, connection and files being moved, making the drive a practical choice for everyday libraries and backup copies.

Build a Regular Computer-Backup Routine

Acronis True Image for Western Digital can schedule backups of a supported computer, including its operating system, applications, settings and locally stored content. The software also includes features to help protect against ransomware. Download, installation and activation with a compatible WD drive are required under the included software offer. Keep the original files as well as a separate backup so important content remains in more than one place.

Add a Password to Private Content

Use supported security software to activate password protection with the drive's built-in hardware encryption. This helps protect personal documents and sensitive work files against unauthorised access when the drive is carried or stored away. Keep the password safely recorded. Current WD Security support covers Windows 11 and macOS 14, 15 and 26; Apple silicon Macs require Rosetta 2.

Carry a Compact Drive for Everyday Files

The compact enclosure fits beside a laptop or into a work bag, making it easy to keep everyday storage with your computer. USB power keeps the setup straightforward without a separate mains adapter to carry. The enclosure contains over 50% recycled plastic. Keep the drive protected during transport and place it on a steady surface when connected, so the portable setup remains practical at a desk or away from your usual workspace.

Keep Everyday Ownership Straightforward

WD backs the drive with a three-year limited warranty, subject to the manufacturer's terms for the country of purchase. Basic file storage, security software and backup applications each have their own operating-system requirements. If your chosen backup workflow requires a different file system, copy existing files elsewhere before reformatting. Safely eject the drive after use and maintain a separate copy of important content.

Summary

WD My Passport Native USB-C suits everyday portable storage for growing photo libraries, media collections and completed work. Connect with the supplied USB-C cable and set up the supported backup and password-protection features you need.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0557/4541/3179/files/wd-my-passport-native-usb-c-portable-hard-drive-9678908.webp?v=1791962172
