It connects directly to 2.4GHz WiFi, records motion events in 4MP 2K QHD and uses an adjustable magnetic base to make positioning easier. A separate camera hub is not required.

Use the Tapo app for live viewing, playback and notifications. Choose the camera pack that matches the number of locations you need to monitor, and add a suitable microSD card to each camera for local event storage. Solar panels and storage cards are sold separately.

Highlights

2K QHD detail: 2560 × 1440 video for checking activity around your property.

Battery installation: a built-in 10,000mAh rechargeable battery removes the need for a fixed power connection.

Flexible positioning: an adjustable magnetic base with mounting options for suitable surfaces.

Free smart detection: person, pet and vehicle alerts with customisable activity zones.

Day and night monitoring: infrared night vision and colour night viewing using the starlight sensor and built-in lighting.

Storage choice: local microSD event recording up to 512GB per camera or optional paid Tapo Care cloud storage.

Key Features

Place Cameras Where They Are Useful

The magnetic base allows the viewing angle to be adjusted without repeatedly loosening a bracket. Suitable metal surfaces can provide a magnetic mounting point; use the supplied plate and appropriate fixings where required. Check WiFi signal strength and the intended field of view before final installation.

For reliable motion detection, mount the camera so movement crosses the view rather than approaching directly towards it. Avoid placing it behind glass, which can interfere with the motion sensor. The camera's IP66 rating supports outdoor use when it is installed with its covers and connections properly sealed.

Capture Motion Events with Useful Detail

The 4MP sensor records 2K QHD video and supports a wide fixed view. Free person, pet and vehicle detection helps you identify the type of activity in an alert. Set activity zones to focus notifications on relevant areas instead of the whole scene.

Infrared night vision reaches up to 15M under the manufacturer's stated conditions. Built-in spotlights allow colour night viewing when extra illumination is needed. Two-way audio lets you speak through the camera, while sound and light alarms provide an additional response option.

Plan Around Battery Use

High-capacity battery power is suited to event monitoring rather than constant recording. The stated maximum 300-day battery life is based on laboratory use totalling 230 seconds per day. At 360 seconds per day, the stated figure is 180 days. Recording, live viewing, frequent alerts, WiFi conditions, temperature and settings all affect actual runtime.

An optional Tapo A201 solar panel can reduce manual charging, but charging depends on sunlight, weather, positioning and usage. Use the matching supplied connector adapter and waterproof gasket for your C425 version, and mount the panel separately from the camera's magnetic base. One panel connects to one camera.

Choose Local or Cloud Storage

A microSD card up to 512GB can store motion-event clips inside each camera without a cloud subscription. Choose a suitable endurance-rated card and initialise it through the Tapo app. Optional Tapo Care adds supported cloud-storage and notification features under its subscription terms.

The C425 is not designed for 24/7 continuous recording and does not support RTSP or ONVIF streaming to a conventional NAS or NVR. Choose a supported continuously powered camera instead if that is a requirement of your recording system.

Check the Hardware Version for Accessories

Tapo C425 hardware revisions have different lens coverage, lighting and charging connections. The Specs table separates the important V1 and V2 differences. Check the hardware version if a particular viewing angle or connection is required.

Summary

The Tapo C425 suits WiFi motion-event monitoring where flexible battery installation matters. Its 2K video, smart alerts, magnetic base and local-storage option provide a practical outdoor setup, with a matching solar panel available for sites that receive suitable sunlight.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0557/4541/3179/products/tp-link-tapo-c425-4mp-2k-qhd-wifi-outdoor-battery-bullet-ip-camera-with-magnetic-base-wire-free-305353.jpg?v=1706253563
